History Clear doesn't clear address bar autocomplete

I am trying to eliminate URLs from popping up under autocomplete. I don't want to just turn autocomplete off to eliminate this problem. I have tried clearing all forms and passwords under autocomplete, and have tried clearing all history, temporary files and cookies from my browser. Even though history and temporary internet files are empty, URLs still are stored somewhere else and being completed by autocomplete. Please help.

Thanks

Hi, you can download CCleaner and tick the option for autocomplete under Internet Explorer but i'm not very sure this is what you want to do...
Run cleaner with the ticked options as they are and if you see that nothing is changed then i believe you can run it with autocomplete option ticked. Please post back to tell how you are doing with this.

I downloaded CCleaer and ran it ticking Autocomplete, but it did not get rid of previous website addresses from popping up when I started to type in the address bar. I've looked online and seen something about deleting index.dat files under cookies, and was able to delete all but one of those files. The file under owner/cookies when I try to delete it says another program is using this file at the moment and can't delete it. I have nothing open on my desktop, so I don't know what other program it is refering to. Any ideas?

Yes, i know how you can delete that index.dat but first tell me to see if i understood correctly.
You type an address in the bar and it takes you to another address? or new windows with other sites appear, irrelevant to the address you typed?

I was able to delete index.dat files and this took care of the problem.
I did this by rebooting in SafeMode and under command prompt typed
CD\ then
del index.dat/s then
shutdown/r

My computer no longer tries to autocomplete websites I've deleted from my history.
Thanks for your help

Yes that was one way of deleting it, another was running CCleaner in safe mode, but in the way you said it (pops-up) i thought you were beeing redirected to other sites. That would require asking help from the Cyber Safety forum and it wouldn't be a good idea continuing deleting with CCleaner, that's why i asked again.
Good to know you resolved your problem!
