View Full Version : Downloading into a Separate Folder!

I am thinking of downloading Maxthon after hearing good repors about it here.
What worries me is that it is so closely based on IE. I was using Ace Explorer about a year ago (also heavily dependent on IE), but suddenly one day my computer developed a sort of mongrel cross between AE and IE. I mean there were no longer two separate browsers but one browser which was a bit of each!! Yes, I know it sounds ludicrous but it happened! I solved it by uninstalling Ace Explorer.
In trying Maxthon, therefore, I want to keep it as separate from IE as I can - any suggestions??

Maxthon uses the IE engine, like AE presumably does. I wouldn't rule a repeat of that situation out of the question, but Maxthon seems to be a much better browser than AE so it shouldn't give you that problem. If you're looking to get as far away from IE as possible, you should go for something like Firefox.

I don't get on with Firefox! As I have mentioned elsewhere on this forum I have downloaded it several times on several computers and always (apart from once) then experienced sound probs which were surprisingly hard to rectify. Also, it invariably wrecks my favourites list even if I never use it to add to that list! I prefer Opera which works away quietly and unobtrusively, minding its own business.

I need someone to give me a reminder on how I can ensure that Maxthon goes in a separate folder as isolated from IE as poss!!
Thanks

I need someone to give me a reminder on how I can ensure that Maxthon goes in a separate folder as isolated from IE as poss!!It doesn't matter what folder you download Maxthon into, nor where you install it. It relies on using the Internet Explorer engine to render HTML, and cannot operate without it. Unless you want to code your own Trident IV-compatible engine to use with Maxthon, there's nothing you can do to change that. Or, why not just use Opera if you like it?

Okay, thanks for that. Yes, I will use Opera because I like it but I wanted to try Maxthon but I take your point that ultimately you can't fully isolate a browser from IE which uses the IE engine!! I like to have about 3 browsers to check out my web pages also.
Thanks again.
