dos boot disks
what would happen If i put the contents of an MS-DOS boot disk onto a hard disk? would I be able to run dos from my hdd instead of a boot disk? or would it just not work?

You could boot MS-DOS from the hard drive but its not that simple, I'm sure someone around here would know how to teach your bootloader that DOS is on the hard drive.
However you could take an easier option, like DOSbox, a free DOS emulator.

just do a format c:/s and you should be able to boot to the harddrive. however, there will be limitations when it comes to the harddrive size and memory.
