This should probably be in hardware but it more a whine than a request for assistance. I came home to find my video off. I discovered my gpu fan had died. Rebooting gave me garphics again but I figured not for long. Not being patient I altered an old pentium pro heatsink to fit, which involved more alteration than I anticipated. It just fits enough to allow the card to go back into the slot. I pulged the fan into the 12v from the power supply as I didn't think the plug on the card would support the larger fan, amperage wise. It's working so far, as evidenced by my presence here. The heatsink is cool to the touch.

Where there is a will, there is a way. People modify their own system all the time.
Using the PSU 12v line is a good idea (more current available).
You'll know in time, and we may also, as your whine turns into a scream.:D
Jury rigging has been around a long time. I do it all the time.

cool. and the modify thing on the heatsink, always make sure you have a backup solution...:) for anything that you modify of course..
