I setup an small home network, useing one desktop(HP with win.ME, host) connected to one (Trogon laptop useing win.98se, client ). I am useing an crossover eithernet line,no hub. The desktop connects to the internet, useing dailup. The laptop uses the desktop to axccess the internet.
I can share everything (files, printer, scanner.ect). And I can click on the Internet explorer icon ( on the laptop ) and connect to the internet( the desktop dailsup the net). I can surf using the laptop, but how do I disconnect the internet? I can close the internet explorer on the laptop, but the internet is still connected to the desktop. I have to go to the backroom and manually click on the internet icon in the toolbar on the desktop to disconnect. I have tryed everything I can think of to fix this. Can anyone tell me how to solve my problem? The wife is lossing patience with me spending all my free time working on these computers. :) Please help, if you can.

Hi Buckmaster1967, welcome to Cyber Tech Help.

You would need to install a third party remote management program
like PCAnywhere on both machines. It would allow you to move the
mouse on the other machine so you could disconnect.

Thanks, do you know of a shareware program?

It comes free within WindowsXP but I see you don't have those
operating systems. To my knowledge there has never been a
live-screen-view remote manager that was offered as freeware
or shareware.

How about creating a reboot shortcut on the desktop and then
clicking on it from the Notebook.

Create a shortcut
right-mouse over desktop
New
Shortcut
in the command line type
\\desktop_computer_name\c:\windows\system\shell32. dll,SHExitWindowsEx 2

This should reboot the desktop from the Notebook (provided your
running a network) a little severe for the goal of disconnecting from
the ISP but that's all can think of that's "free".

thanks for the info, I don`t think i want to reboot to disconnect, but that is pretty cool thinking, that would work, i suppose i will have to fork over some money to do it right. Besides nothings free. Thanks again

I found an free download that works great, I can take control of any computer on the network, very neat. the name of the file is spcrm62.exe . You can see what the other computer, mouse, keyboard, is doing. I can now look at the other computer, and click on the connection icon, to close it. I am having trouble using internetsharing with this program running, because it uses the the id # of the other computer. Have not figured out how to fix it yet, have any ideals, let me know.
This is a great little program, and it is free, just do a google search for the file.
