To format or not to format.....

Hello You seem like a very helpful bunch so I thought I'd ask your advice.

Untill recently my computer played sound happily, both from CD's and other audio (games, warnings etc). Now it will only play CD's.
I have win 95, Soundblaster live and a set of speakers set up.
I dont think I have changed any options anywhere and cant seem to work it out.
This problem began after I moved house with the unit.

The thing is....my computer is experiencing quite a few probs so I wondered if it would help to format my hard drive and reintall all my stuff. Is this woth doing?

Hope you can help

The first thing I'd try would be a Physical Check. Open the box and prepare yourself for an avalanche of dirt. Clean all that out with a small vacuum and a can of compressed air paying close attention to heatsinks and fans. Now I would check each card to make sure that they were all seated properly and then restart.

While you're doing this, make sure that you have your case well grounded so that it's components are not subjected to getting zapped by static.

As alfons says, check for correctly seated cards and also double check that the speakers are plugged into the correct ouputs on the soundcard.
