Low Download Speeds

Hi all

I run XP have a wireless 1megabyte broadband connection

when i use limewire and other p2p/torrent programs it will not download at a sum speed of higher than approx 20kbs i.e. if i downlaod 5 things they run at , 5, 2,2, 4, 7 kbs each which is just crazy!
anyone got any advice how to alter this
i use limewire and bitlord, not sure whether this would come under applicatuibs but as it seemed to cross them felt it was a general net problem, my downloading of direct files seem to be unaffected as does my internet browsing
any thoughts
thanks in advance!!
