open links in new windows

sorry this is probably a dumb question. when ever i click a link it keeps the new page in the same window. its annoying when i want to look at more then one thing at a time. and it wont let me use the back button.
i cant have more then one explorer running at one time. its never done this before.
how do i fix this?

thank you very much.

What internet browser are you using?
If you are using firefox right click on the link and click "Open in new window" or "open in new tab"
If you aren't using firefox, start using it.

Hello bballkvn, welcome to CTH.
There is an option for this in IE to make it permanent, but i can't find it right now but i'll keep looking.

In the meantime you can do something else. When there is a link, right click on it and select "Open in a new window"

Try it with this link

If you're using Internet Explorer, go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab. Scroll down to an uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts," click OK. Of course, some shortcut will always use the existing window and for those you need to use the right click link/left click "Open in new window."

It might be a popup blocker keeping a second window from opening. You can usually bypass those by holding down either the Shift or Ctrl key (depending on the program) when clicking the link.

The Yahool toolbar has also been known to create the one-window-only problem, too.
