Firefox - pdf

Anyone have a suggestion as to why Firefox won't download a .pdf file?
The new page appears, but is only a blank page, nothing ever appears and the pdf file doesn't show up anywhere. I'm using Adobe reader 7.0.8

Perhaps I should clarify my question some.
When a website has a link to an article which is in pdf format, the page changes to the site of the link and immediately says "done", but only a blank page results. I've tried entering the link URL directly in the address bar of a new page but the results are the same.

you can customize actions for pdf files if you go to tools, options, downloads, view and edit actions. if it still does not work, reinstall acrobat reader.

also found this http://www.bnl.gov/itd/webapps/pdf_help.asp
see 'web browser integration'. could have gotten turned off somehow, its a possibility
