anything to sell vista or winxp sp2

see this

Microsoft will not fix a serious flaw in Windows 98 and Windows Millennium Edition because a patch could break other applications.
The security bug relates to Windows Explorer and could let an intruder commandeer a vulnerable PC, Microsoft warned in April. The software maker has made fixes available for Windows Server 2003, Windows XP and Windows 2000, but it has found that eliminating the vulnerability in Windows 98 and ME is "not feasible," it said.

yeah. but win 98 and ME have always been known to be insecure. probably more trouble than they're worth to fix it now. if you have an old pc it's better off running linux anyway.

Just how long has it been since people were advised Microsoft was stopping support of those OS's??

They are just doing what they said they were going to do !!

ah! that is were ur wrong, they said that until later on this year of 06 they were going to provide security fixes, however it seems they're supposed upping for support to this year to provide fixes for security problems was a lie, so that means if it was a lie and they aren't going to provide any security fixes equals out to that 98, ME, 98SE was already unsupported and went out of protection the very first time around...they just gave a sense false of hope, and security to 98, ME, and 98SE users.

Maybe you should read THIS !! Considering you posted in the thread I would start being concerned about memory loss !!!!

Effective June 30, 2006, support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second
Edition and Windows Me (and their related components) will end. After
this date, incident support, security updates and Custom Support
Agreement will no longer be available to the public.
Visit
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/support/endofsupport.mspx for details.

Murray notice that it is not yet JUNE 30, 2006 it is juno 10,2006 as of pacific time this post was posted, and until then it says that they will supply security updates. I did have memory loss I thought it ended earlier or later like in july, however I don't disagree with stopping support, I disagreed with the MS lie, however I do think that one or two actually were posted tho... :/

I do know that Security updates via windows update will be supplied and thru the download section of existing 98 applications on the MS website, however newer updates, bug fixes, security updates, will not after the elected date..

oh by the way sp1 support will be ending this year for xp I think also, however XP sp1 and XP sp2 seem like that XP gold is one Operating system, XP sp1 is another and xp sp2 is another. I trusted updates up to sp1 of xp when I had it after that I am suspicious of XP2 and never instatalled it...
