Laptop recommendations?

Hi guys - long time no type! :dizzy:

Well well my poor eMachines finally died the other day after months of suffering and torture.
I plan on buying a new laptop - hopefully i wont make the same mistake again...

Well im from uk so any decent UK laptops with a price around 1000 pounds would be nice, except those damn PC world guys don't have a clue about selling and overall what laptop is good and what is not!

So i came here desperate to recieve recommendations - online or in store is fine, im not a fan of ebay, recently i scammed from an iPod video so its hard to determine what item is authentic or not.

what do you use a laptop for, gaming, internet, business, desktop replacement?

Also do you use it as a laptop and carry it around with you or does it generally stay in one place?

Anything with really good specs is good, and im not bothered about portability as it will be mainly used in the house.
