Yo, sup all.
I thought I'd just make a useless thread right here :D.
Anyway, since some of us hardly use the net and download < some of us upload, I thought I'd just create this thread to see how much downloads we all gotz.
Just state your internet company, where you're located, the speed of the connection, download limit (maybe your upload limit too, if u have one) and type of connection.
Something like this (Mine btw)(just as a guildline though):
Company - Optus net cable
Country - Australia
Speed (down/up) - 5600/256
Download allowance - 60GB
Upload allowance - [infinity](uploading too much causes complaints from the ISP about lagging neighbouring users ;) :curse:).
Some of you may have your upload bandwidth usage subtracted from your monthly download limit(my deepest condolences to you), if so, it would be wise to state it, and anything else that would be of concern.
Anyway, doesn't anyone know of some good internet companies with decent download limits?

BT gives me infinite, I've not read the contract looking for "excessive use" clauses though

Yeah, i am really in need of more downloads.
I remember hearing that internet in australia is slow and expensive, i hope i'm wrong.
BTW, about having infinity and all, do u get shaped after a certain amount? usually you do, unless the speed of it is pretty low.
But usually if it's cable we're talking about, getting capped after a certain amount is normal, either that or it costs a fortune.

Broadband in Australia is slow and expensive.
Bigpond Cable, 8000/128Mbps, shaped after 10GB ("shaped" is business jargon for "so slow you'll have trouble loading the smallest of web pages"), and usage measured as total transfer (download + upload), which is common with Bigpond's plans - the advantage though is that servers are allowed under the AUP, which most other ISPs don't allow.
Do yourself a favor and buy a copy of PC Powerplay (monthly gaming mag), they have a page which gives a summary of several ISP's broadband plans (page 102 in this month's issue #127).

Yeah Oracle - APC mag has similar comparisons.
ADSL in Aus sucks 1.5Mb/s down 128 up is their "high speed" - Cable is the way to go for real Broadband. Up till last couple of months, NZs was worse.
Now we're on "up to" 3Mb/s which for me normally hits around 2.5 down - still only 128 up though.
5Gig cap (combined up/down) then throttle back to 64Kb/s!
My ISP has data caps on all accounts, competitors do now offer some uncapped plans though.

Hey, since i'm pretty sure australia has one of the most expensive and ripped-off internet plans in the world, what country has the cheapest/most value for money internet plans?

I'd have to say South Korea. I'm almost certain they have the highest rate of broadband access, so presumably they'd also have the best value plans because of that.

'That so..
Any ideas as to the average price vs features/speed in Korea(in $AU)?
Anyway, it's quite a relief that internet prices seem to being going down year by year, but currently they have only been slight decreases in the price and some increase in speed.
There are some internet companies i've had a look at, but imo optusnet would have to be one of the most reliable.
There are some plans around that offer unlimited downloads/uploads with no shaping. But in the end, the only situation such an internet plan would have major differences in value is if the speed is >= or around what they had stated, and that you're using the full bandwidth almost 24/7, which is unlikely feasible.

Don't have any idea about the plans available in S. Korea, your google is as good as mine (I do believe I just invented that phrase).

I posted a link which provides up to 8mb for the majority of BT customers. I'll see if I can dig it out.
