I did have windows on but then switched it off, would it be laright if I just ran windows firewall? I tried everything in zone alarm to make the network work, I don't think the free version is good for a network!

I prefer to use a more indepth Firewall as they give you information about programs trying to access the net.

I have been having this problem with zone alarm myself, and have still not found a workaround that will work. Are you using the free version of ZA or the pro? If you are using the free version you can register at the zone alarm website for access to their forums.

daffy just wondering here how is your network setup? Do you use a router or? If you use a router it should have a built in hardware firewall. I personally do run ZA free at times along with my router but only if I want to take a peek at app's that are accessing the net from my computer. Also knowing how your network is set up might better help us to pin point an answer for your problem.

I have a built in pci ethernet card which says firewalled, and so does my cable modem but this is the windows one, No matter what I do zone alarm won't let my two children get on the internet, I think you only get the network wizard in the pro one. I was using sygate but can't get it now. I did a port test at sheilds up and all were stealthed but it failed the ping test and when I ran sygate it all passed.

If you want to go back to Sygate's free firewall, you can download several different versions of it from www.oldversion.com. I use the last version before Sygate discontinued it and it works just fine with my network and router.
