Updating my iPod

I just got a new video iPod to replace my old mini, and I updated it a few weeks ago with my old songs. Now I want to update it again with 30 or so new songs and a few videos, but I can't get it to start the process! When I plug my ipod in, it says Do Not Disconnect, and my computer acknowledges that an iPod is in, but the option "Update iPod" is grey and unclickable, and the process does not start automatically on iTunes.
