Quicktime 7.1 - Mac OSX - MPEG playback?

Well, here's the deal.

Someone gave me a CD-R with a MPEG video on it.

Will my Quicktime play it? No.

Can anyone tell me WHY? And, if possible, how I go about playing this video?
