OK I have an IDE drive (30GB, 203GB partitions) and I would like to copy the entire windows 30GB partion to my SATA which I can wipe out and repartiton.....the 165GB of files in the second partition are very valuable and will be backed up between the 2 drives but if I format SATA then they will not be backed up during the copy of windows so I need a program that will not disturb the larger partition and fully move the smaller prtition to the SATA drive and bot windows properly (why, because this IDE is slow and unreliable, it has crashed twice)

I was going by this statement on my recommedation. Do a google for free backup software and you'll find it.

Howdy:

If they are THAT valuable, then it shouldn't bother you to purchase a treid and true backup software !!

Rainbow32's suggestion is still your best bet!!

If you have a new drive and you want to clone the old then goto the HDD Manufacturers website and download their utilities. They usually have a disk copy tool for new drives.

OK now I am trying to format the IDE from windows on the SATA but it won't let me.......first I got an error saying it was unable to format at the very end of the formatting, but it showed the full partition with no type of format...so I try to format once more afetr a reboot and as soon as I hit format, boom, comp crashes.....see what I mean about the IDE not being reliable? SO is my drive dead for a third time? I got the drive and 6 months later it's dead, send me a refurbished one, 2 weeks later it's dead, they sent me this refurbished drive a week ago, is it dead now too?

and just to say it.....NEVER ****ING BUY SEAGATE!.......sucks that they bought Maxtor so now Seagate is the only big hard drive maker anymore really.......
