Old Backup File "1-S" extension. Help!

I have an old file on my system and it is called
"BACKUP~1.1-S "
(an S not a 5)
It was dated 1997

I do not remeber what software I used to do the backup and thus do not know how to find out what is inside or how to restore it.

Does anyone know of this extension?

I do not remember using anything other than Microsoft backup but maybe I used some other Win95 compatible software.

I used Textpad to 'look' inside and saw tons of gobbleygook - greek type letters, symbols, black boxes and generally garbage but at the top after 30 or 40 symbols was this sequence
"IGS,C:Temp, IOL,BIN,BATCH,CDROM"

IGS is an old Internet Service provider for me, but could mean something else here.

I probably saved some old images I made but cannot be certain.

Thanks for any help
Ralph
