Outlook 2002 Send/Recieve Problem

Hello, I am having a problem with Outlook 2002 with send/recieve problems. Everytime I either hit the F9 key or hit the "send/recieve" button on the toolbar, I get "the operation failed". However, if I manually do it by going to tools>send/recieve>pop.earthlink.net it works just fine.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the email account with no luck. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the entire office xp software suite, that didn't help. Any help?

Is that the only account on that installation of Outlook?
Also try the "test accounts" facility - see what that comes up with.
