Simple Question re download limits

OK,

I wonder if there is any software out there, (preferably freeware), which could tell one what their average download quota is.

Reason? - I'm currently with an ISP who allows unlimited download but am considering changing.

Many offers include a download limit so how will I know if I change to an ISP which limits download to X mb if I will still manage on my current download?

Also, when it says 'download limit' does this just refere to files/upgrades etc you actually download or does it also include web pages etc?

Upload and download limits usually do not apply to the bulk
size amount that you can upload or download.
They are limits on the speed of the connection.
The lower the speed,the longer it takes to upload
or download.

Actually, that is really only true in America. A lot of countries actually limit the volume of download in addition to the speed.

That should help you with what you want... just leave it on and it will tell you the full network usage for a given time period which you can use to estimate monthly usage.

As for what the data limits are, everything is included. Even if you were to PING google.com, that would be included.

Netmeter will record your transfer amounts.

The Bandwidth or Traffic includes everything, including webpages.

I Find broadband jargon from ISP's very confusing :-(

Some say true unlimited broadband, which suggests that other ISP's advertising unlimited broadband does not really mean that?? Surley the internet police should correct this??

so if an ISP says x mb limit - how does that, nay, how can that relate to the speed when it does not say so?? hhhmmmm?!!??
when I was at school speed was measured in mb/sec etc and amount was measured in Mb etc?? If they do 'lump it all together' (how, I've no idea), how do I work out the speed limit and bulk download?? And if I pay for a 2MB speed as opposed to a 1MB how dare they reduce it!!?

I've never head a download limit refer to the speed of the connection. Download limit has always referred to the amount of data, traffic, bandwidth etc. (what ever you want to call it).
