What's the difference between 54Mbps and 108Mbps when it comes to wireless network cards? Asides from the fact that 108 is two times more than 54... I have common sense... But I mean performance-wise.
Thnx
PS. I have a D-Link DI-624 Wireless router.

What specifically were you wanting to know? 54Mbps mode runs at, surprise surprise, 54 Megabits per second. It uses the 802.11g wireless protocol. 108Mbps of course runs twice as fast as 54, using either Super-G or Pre-N protocols.
"Performance" is a generic term which only has meaning when you use metrics - such as speed (which in this case, is doubled for 108Mbps). If everything else remains the same on the PC, then there should be no other differences. Latency remains pretty much the same - dependent on the ability of the network hardware, and the strength of the signal.

Alright... let me reformulate... assuming that the wireless router only uses a 802.11b protocol, and the PC in question is approx. 10 meters away with a floor in the way. Would it be wiser to use a 54 or 108 Mb/s card?

802.11b can only run at 11Mbps.

Also to add to whats been said, if you are using a 54Mbps card (with a router which can handle that speed i.e. 802.11g) you wont notice any performance drop (compared to 108Mbps) if you are only using it for internet. The highest download speeds you are likely to see from home broadband would be around 800kbps tops which is alot less than 54Mbps and 108Mbps. The only time you will notice a difference is if you are transfering files between pc's in the network.
