I currently have a desk top PC with broadband internet connection via Virgin.
I have also purchased a wireless lap top. I want to connect the lap top to the same Virgin broadband internet WITHOUT TRAILING CABLES.
I am getting lots of conflicting advice - I need to buy a "wireless kit", I need to buy a router (but would this not require cabling to the desk top?), I need to buy an additional subscription from Virgin etc.
Anyone know what I really need to do?
Thanks.

Now correct me if im wrong but you could try this:
1. Grab a wireless modem/router and the correct PCI Wireless Card.
2. Hook ur wireless modem/router to ze phone line socket.
3. Install ze wireless software for the correct card on ze laptop.
4. I think you can use two wireless cards to function on the ONE wireless modem/router. (This means getting one for the Desktop PC too.)
NOTE: Modem/Router refers to a modem AND a router put together. No wiring is essential except for the phone line cable and ze power cable.
NOTE2: If using two netword cards (one for each comp) make sure they both have the SAME WEP Key so it will function correctly.

I could be wrong... but isn't Virgin a cellular service, meaning you connect to the internet via a cell phone?

Hi Yellowhoods and wlecome to CTH,
I'll try to answer your question as best as I can.
First, you shouldn't need to buy an additional subscription from virgin.
Depending on your modem, you may be able to just buy a wireless router. The wireless router would go between the modem and your desktop and yes you would need to connect the desktop to the router using an ethernet cable, unless you put a wireless card in the desktop.
However, if your modem only has a USB connection then you need to replace it with something like the wireless kit that virgin offers.
I hope this helps and let me know if you have more questions.
