To the best of my knowledge, windows 98 does not support 1394 (firewire) networking and I don't know of any software that allows you to do direct file transfers between 2 computers. Perhaps someone here knows differently, I tried to look for windows 98 firewire networking information and wasn't able to find any.

OK. have you checked to see if they firewire controllers are being seen correctly on both machines? Go to the device manager on both machines and look for "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" and make sure the controlles listed don't have a '?' or '!' on them.
EDIT: As AA said 1394 networking isn't support by 98SE, you'll need a 3rd party software package like firenet (http://www.unibrain.com/Products/DriverAPI/FireNET.htm). I don't know how well it works, but for 20 USD you can't go too wrong.

I am not sure about 1394 cable cause i havent used it like that but i got a netgear 834g and i got 2 computers, one is dell desktop and the other iscompaq armada 1700, the problem is the laptop havnt got any lan card so the best thing i could come up with was an ethernet pc card ZEN1200 which i am currently using and very satisfied with it or you can use USB 2.0 Ethernet 10/100 RJ45 LAN Network Adaptor to bring it on network.
SPEEDY
enjoy

You keep bringing up old threads (some a couple of years ago) and replying. Come on if you have nothing else to do, this is a useless practice. You have been PM'd by moderators about doing this.
If it continues you will no longer be able to post here. We welcome members bringing up old threads if they have the same problem, as it lets us and the members see what was done previously.. But in your case they are not.
When you do post trying to help, your posts are very helpful and mostly on target. - A helpful member.... so please keep it to current threads, unless a member brings up a thread with the same problem and asking for help.
