Angry Win2k RightClick Freezeup

i just switched from WinXP Pro to Win2k about 2 weeks ago and for some ungodly reason whenever i right click on a folder on the desktop or in windows explorer my box locks up. i can right click in programs fine(opera, mirc, icq)but when i right click on files or folders it locks up...SOMETIME i can get to task manager, sometimes not, but if i kill explorer.exe then file>new task in taskmanager and rerun explorer.exe everthing goes back fine but thats only the few times i can get to task manager.

ANY help is appreciated

Do you have Service Pack 2 installed?

Do you have one of these LOGITECH or MICROSOFT Wheel mouse?? If so upgrade to the latest drivers.

?

service pack three covers all other packs yes.

i am curious to know, why did u switch from xp back to win2k?

was the xp formatted ntfs? is the windows 2000 ntfs?

did you completely remove your xp system, format, and perform a clean install of 2k?

if u formatted and removed the xp correctly before installing 2k than i am slightly confused as to what your problem may be.

more info please....

Unhappy ntfs

i had a problem like that, but only with one particular file. if its not a driver issue or something to do with compatability, than maybe its virus/trojan/etc. activity. like i said it just happened to me, one file locked up my system everytime i even went near it. i couldnt even delete it normally, i had to do it thru command.
im sorry if im no help, the thing to consider is that i am trying to help.

maybe? run a thorough scan for virus and trojan. make sure your definitions are up to date.
goto windows update and see if all your packs are up to par. install ie6 and all the updates if you use ie ever. install your os ntfs if it is not already.
follow the mods advice with the mouse.
check all your physical connections in and out of the box.
download sandra sisoft and run a diagnostic on your memory.
make sure your bios is set to plug-and-play os.
download partition magic, transfer all files from fat to ntfs, and then format both ntfs.
dont hate me for not having the right answer.
