I am on my forth cable modem, yet it still goes out all the time. It's rented from my internet provider. I also use a router from sunrocket which is phone company that I use along with the cable modem. Pretty much the real trouble i'm having here is that when the internet goes out, the phone does too. The router will go out sometimes but it's the cable modem that does it all the time. I've tried the usual turning off the computer and modem. And then waiting one minute to plug up the modem and then 2 more minutes to turn back on the computer. It'll work fine for awhile after that then it'll go out again and then come back on in a few seconds or sometimes it won't come back on at all.

So, I came on here today to ask you fine people for some help before I go on to getting another modem or calling my internet provider to see if the problem could be some wires.

OS - Window XP Service Pack 2
It's not wireless and I do not have multiple PCs networked or use any ICS that I know of.

If there's anything else you need to know that I didn't talk about here. I'll gladly reply back as soon as I can. I'll be on for awhile after this is made.

Also I know I should just make another topic but I was reading Zips Hints for posting on this board. And saw that a good ip address for a router is 192.168.0. or 192.168.1. I looked at mine and it's starts with 192.168.2. Could there be any problem with that or am I ok?

so if you don't have multiplel computers, why do you have the router? What happens if you hook directly to the modem?

The router is use for Sunrocket internet phone.

EDIT:
I haven't tried just hooking up the cable modem. The phone will probably just not work if it isn't hooked up.

Hi jerebear and welcome to CTH. I too use SunRocket for phone service. A few questions I have for you are...

Did you login to the "Gizmo" and set it up or just plug it in with the defaults?
What brand router is it or is it just the "Gizmo"?
How is your network actually setup?

For example does it go like:

cable modem--->Gizmo--->computers

Just plug it in with the defaults
It say Innomedia on the back of it so i'm guessing it's just a Gizmo

cable modem--->Gizmo--->computers

Take a look at the bottom of the Gizmo is it model : MTA 6328Re ?
Althogh I don't think the Gizmo is at fault here or causing the problem it would still be nice to log into it and make sure its setup right. Based on your first post it really sounds like the modem or perhaps the lines are the problem. If its a cable connection I have had to call out the cable company before to a clients home and they had to remove water from the outside drop then the connection was fine.

It has nothing on the bottom but on the back it says Innomedia MTA6328-2Re and some other stuff that's probably not important

Yeah it just makes me think. Ever since I got skyrocket there's been this problem. Or is it just a my luck that all the modems I get, go out. Like the last one I put up with for 2 weeks because it would average 10 times going off in a day.

Oh well I might have to go ahead and call them up then. Thanks
