Hi all, can anyone please help me? I have 2 icons in my task bar that annoy the hell out of me and I don't know how to get rid of them or fix them, 1 is the message "limited or no connectivity" with a yellow warning triangle over the 2 screens, when i try an repair the network, I get the message, "windows cannot renew your IP address " I have tried IPconfig and renewing/releasing my IP address but that does not seem to work. The 2nd icon is the same 2 screens with a red X and the message "local area connection and a network cable is unplugged". When I tried disabling the first icon, I am unable to connect to the internet as my IP cannot detect my modem adapter. Can anyone please help? Thanks, Rebecca:dizzy:

If you have 2 Network Adaptors installed then you can disable the one that is not being used. This may be a Network Card, but it also maybe a Firewire or USB port.

You can disable it from Network Connections page.

From here you can disable the connection that you do not need.
Also, you can view the properties of your connection and there are options to show the icon and message. You can uncheck those options.

For the first problem, what is your setup?
Wired or Wireless? Static or DHCP IP Address? Router?

You cannot renew a static IP Address.

goto start>run> and type cmd /k ipconfig /all
post the results

Are you using dial up?

It looks as though you are connected via ADSL with the BT Voyager Modem.
This would be a dynamic IP (DHCP). That connection is ok. You don't have to change anything with that.

The GlobeSpan USB ADSL LAN Modem
/connection can be disabled. It is not doing anything.

I only have my home pc on the network. I am using windows XP, service pack 2. I do not have wireless or a router, am using a BT Voyager modem to connect.

Have you got an exact make and model of your modem? Are you sure its not a voyager router/modem or a speedtouch modem? Are you on BT Home broadband or BT business broadband?

Did the internet work before you disabled the first icon?

Hi, is a BT Voyager 105 adsl modem that I have. When I disabled the GlobeSpan USB ADSL LAN Modem, I was not able to connect to internet, I kept getting the message that my modem adapter could not be found so i have enabled it again and am obviously able to connect again, am confused! Oh, sorry, forgot to say, am with AOL, not BT, although is a BT modem

OK so you can connect to the internet but just want to get rid of those little symbols???? if so:

To do this go to Start - Control panel - Network connections - Right click on one of your connections and go to properties. Then uncheck "show icon in notification area when connected" and "notify me when connection has limited or no connectivity"

Thanks, have followed your instructions and icons have now gone. I am just a bit unsure as to why I have a BT modem that i connect with and I still need the other (Globespan modem)? Thanks everyone for your help, Rebecca
