Help with wireless internet

My wireless card tells me I am conncected to the internet with an excellent signal, yet when I click on IE or Mozilla, it brings up the page saying the page cannot be found, meaning I dont have a connection.... Does anyone know how I can fix this because it wont let me on wireless anywhere...not the Reitz, or any place else. Help?

Aaron

You will need to run some tests when you next get a chance to.

Firstly turn off any firewalls you have running to see if that is the problem. If that dont solve your problem post your ipconfig details when you next try to connect. To do this go to: Start - run - type cmd and press ok. Then type:

ipconfig

and post your results.

The media disconnected isnt to do with your wireless connection, its your ethernet NIC card so dont worry. Your pc isnt recieving a valid ip address (169.254 is the windows default ip).

Did you try turning off any firewalls you have?
To find out if the router is security enabled, right click on the little wireless computer symbol on the bottom right and click on view available wireless networks. Underneath the wireless network you are trying to connect to should say "security enabled wireless network" or "unsecured wireless network"

i think i got it disabled. but i noticed something else. when i unplug my computer from the AC adapter it pops up saying that my network card has been turned off to conserve battery life...would that affect it? if so how do i change that? just go to the power usage settings?

I think there is a power option if you click on the properties of your wireless adapter.

did you check if the wireless network was security enabled?

Same process whether its an adapter or built in. I havent got a laptop on me now to check but if I remember correctly go to "network connections" (either from control panel or show all connections and right click on your wireless LAN and go to properties. There should be a power saving tab or option in there.
