Router/Wireless Adapter Problem
Hey everyone! This is my first post, which I'll try to make as concise as possible.
Here's the scenario: Cable modem, Linksys Wireless Router, 4 computers hooked to router - 2 are wired, 2 wireless. We've been losing internet connection (even though connection icon says the connection is strong), so DH hit the reset button on the router, in addition to unplugging/replugging (is that a word?) modem. Restarted computers, and though I was able to connect through my laptop (computer I'm using now), the other wireless computer has a "Wireless connection not available" message now. Says the Linksys Wireless Adapter is working properly, but no wireless internet available. BTW, the connection I'm using seems to be a different one that I connected with before the Reset, etc. - not secure, either - but I didn't change anything manually. Sorry, I guess this isn't as concise as I had hoped, but as you can no doubt tell, I have VERY limited knowledge of computer terms, troubleshooting, etc. Oh, one last thing - both wireless computers use Windows XP, laptop has SP2 and the other has SP1. Thanks for any assistance!!! |

Well thats alot of info there for sure so lets see what we can do. I can tell you that hitting the reset button on the router is the reason that your wireless connection doesn't seem like it did before. Resetting the router took it back to factory default meaning that you have to set it back up again with a non default SSID and WEP or WPA security. Now as far as why it seemingly lost connectivity it the first place there could be tons of reasons. One could be that the computers that are connecting wirelessly are far away from the router. Sometimes the signal can have a hard time getting to the wireless computers depending on distance or type of construction in your home. Another reason could be you need to update the drivers for the wireless adapters in those computers. Yet another could be that a firewall on either wireless computer could be blocking traffic needed to stay connected. Ohh and yet another could be a wireless phone near the router some wireless phones have been known to cause trouble with a wireless router.
