Have CTH staff ever considered setting up a service to allow troubleshooting via remote methods (Remote Assistance, VNC etc)? Just wondering.
Of course, I've already thought about trust issues, which would be solved by having users only trust members with a particular status.

That indicates live help. This is not a live help site. It's just one step further than helping via instant message, which is a step up from PM.
I would never consider it unless it was a personal friend and then it would not be really anything to do with CTH.

It would also take some trust to allow someone who is not a representative from a company to give them complete access to your PC. True you could only allow members of a certain status to do it, but that would probably only be moderators and admins. Post count doesn't show expertise necessarily.
It would be nice sometimes to do it, though, because you could see the problem for yourself without having the person try to explain it.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather trust any random member here with full access over my PC, than some idiot from Dell.

Hmmm, I might feel obliged to charge for that kind of support Oracle. After all, I do in real life. :D

What can someone do if they remoted linked to your pc..ie what problems could they fix ????

You can do a lot if you use Remote Assistance. For an easy example, if someone wanted me to make their computer start faster and didn't want to follow typed instructions and lived far away, I could start my computer, have them start theirs, start the program, etc. and remove some startup items, make sure there's no malware, run chkdsk and defrag if necessary, perform some tweaks, etc. all while the user sits at their PC if they want and watch.

It would allow me to do anything, as if I were sitting in front of your PC. Fix stuff or completely hose it. :)
