Modem not detected

my modem is not being detected, i tried the add new hardware thing and it just freezes up, and install modem and that freezes up too.......somebody please help me

I need a bit more information to go on.

What sort of Modem - Internal/External - Make and model, PCI or ISA slot?

What version of W95 (a,b,c)?

Some basic syetem specs, memory, processor etc would be helpful.

What other hardware is installed - Serial mouse or PS/2? Anything else using Serial ports?

Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/System Device manager.
Are there any alerts next to any of your devices (Alerts are small icons, either yellow triangle or red circle).
