messenger dl's but doesnt install

yahoo messenger will download no problem, then i go to the instal page, it has me check a few things and read the agreement. i click finish to go ahead and install. that page disappears, and absolutely nothing happens.
heres what ive tried so far:
ctrl alt delet and shutting down everything but the necessities.
ive checked system resources (80%)
ive tried dling from another site. same problem.
i am at my wits end here because ive always used messenger.
they tried to get me to upgrade every time i signed on, so i try it and now ive had to uninstall everything yahoo and try all over.
does anyone have any ideas? itd be muchly appreciated!!

From where did you download yahoo messenger if from yahoo then thats only a small installer. Why not download a stanalone install form soft32.com, softwarepatch.com

k tried both, it downloads and then when i click ok to start installation, the screen goes away and nothing else pops up.... ugh

Do you have pop-up blocker on?
Did you have yahoo messenger before? If yes did you delete it?
Do you have firewall?
Which version you are trying to download?
