I'm having trouble with regsvr32.dll. I tried installing BearShare and it said regsvr32 could not be found. I used search and realized that it isn't on my computer. So I downloaded the file off the Internet but it still says the file can't be found when I try to install this program. I am putting the DLL file in WINDOWS/SYSTEM. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi CompGeek, what Windows version are you using?

Re:
Sorry it took me so long to respond - I'm using Windows ME and still having the same problem. Now it gave me the same error message while installing the HP PSC 2100 drivers and software.

Perhaps the file that you d/loaded isn't the correct version for WINME. If you have your install CD for WINME, you could extract the file from the Windows folder on the install CD (folder is called either Windows ME or Windows 9x, I can't recall offhand) using the Extract tool in msconfig.

I don't have an install CD - only the Windows ME upgrade CD. I upgraded from Windows 98 and I do not have the Windows 98 disk either. Do you know where I can obtain the version of the DLL for Windows ME?

Sarah, the file will be on the WinME Upgrade CD, you will need to extract it (it is compressed in one of the setup .cab files).
To extract it, you will need to use MSCONFIG extract tool (I don't think ME has the SFC (System File Checker)? Start>Run>MSCONFIG. Somewhere on there is the Extract tool which should give you the option to "Extract one file from installation disk".

Correct, smurfy, Windows ME does not have System File Checker.
When you open msconfig, the Extract File button is under the General tab. |
