I have a question. When using Nero Showtime (or any DVD viewing device I’ve tried) there are some DVDS that refuse to create screen caps, or frame captures. And when when I use the keyboard’s “print screen” button, I get a result like this:

Is that a result of some kind of protection device on the DVD? There were some really awesome stills from my Fear and Loathing DVD that I wanted to use as wallpaper. Anyone have experience getting around this problem?

Is that a result of some kind of protection device on the DVD?No, it's a technical limitation.

You can capture images by either:
a) Using the media player's software rendering mode (often by disabling hardware rendering), or
b) using special screen capture software (most cost money but have a free trial)

In addition, some media players have a screen capture function built in, specifically for this purpose (don't know of Nero does though).

If you can't find a media player that will do it properly for you, BSPlayer (http://www.bsplayer.org/) has screen capture built in, so does VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/).

I didn't have any luck with BSplayer on the interlaced DVD. Disabled hardware acceleration and overlays in WMP as well, as explained here:

to no success. And apparently, my version of Media Player Classic required a plug-in or something, because I couldn't get screen caps.

I tinkered with my screen cap software in Nero Showtime and altered video settings in a way that finally let me capture the regular movie files, but am still unable to capture the screen at the parts where I'm viewing image stills. I wish someone knew how those were put on the DVD.

Don't know why BSPlayer didn't do it. Try VLC then.
