I need assistance setting up a Clover DVR for remote viewing. I have a "3com model 3c510" router, Dynamic IP address and running windowXP on computers.
I am told I need a static IP address, which I can obtain if necessary. I want to be able to view my security cameras from a remote computer.
I am not the most computer savy, but feel that with some help I can complete this task successfully.
3com does not support this router, because of it's age.
Clover USA's technical assistance is everything but! What a joke. It's the last time I purchase a Clover USA product ever!!
Somebody Please Help.
I am going to post this in another forum as well, cause I don't know exactly where it belongs.
Thank You for your time.

After reading your router's user guide, this router does not support Dynamic DNS.

Here are some ways of doing this depending on your situation...hope this helps you.

1. If you will get charged a standard $5 fee for a static IP address from your cable/dsl company, consider upgrading your router to one that offers DDNS support. These can usually be purchased for $20 to $40 after rebates and promotions--plus you'll recover the money within a year.

2. If you have a computer turned on 24/7 and don't mind installing software from a Dynamic DNS (DDNS) provider on the computer, you can set that computer to automatically update your Internet IP address so you can reach your home network.

3. The easiest method or if you are a business/commercial user (using this for a non-personal reason), then the $5 fee for a static IP would be your best bet.

Now that you are able to locate your home network remotely (either by using a static IP address or a "host.getmyip.com" type address pointing to a dynamic IP address), you can configure your router.

Since I don't have a clover manual telling me which ports to forward to your device I can only recomend setting a demiliterized zone DMZ to the internal IP address (192.168.XXX.XXX) for your clover DVR box (i.e. 192.168.2.105 if that was what you had this box using on your LAN side). If you have the clover DVR setup to use DHCP, then remember this address can possibly change if you loose power.

Usually DMZ is not the first choice due to security, but since this is a DVR it's not capable of file sharing or printing. Still remember to have a STRONG password on this clover DVR--otherwise someone unwanted could log in to your system.

Last thing is to test your setup. You can start the software on your network and use the DDNS host name (or the static IP address if you chose to do that method).

OK sounds like I need a new router with DDNS support or get a static IP address for $5 a month? I do know which ports to forward to my device. This system is for my company use only!
Appreciate you helping me out.
