I need help deciding between Firefox and Opera

Alright, I've been using Firefox for a while now but I read on a site that Opera was better in terms of security and speed. But they were using Firefox ver. 1.x as an example. So now I need some hard facts and opinions, which is better? The latest version of Firefox or the latest version of Opera?

Why not just try both and decide which you like best?

I keep them both open so I can switch back & forth when one of them is acting up....usually FF for me, often goes on a " ....can't find page" binge.

I like Opera over FF. And I've tried both also, just didn't care that FF deleted a few hours of negative scans/photos for me in one fell swoop. Count that as 100's of photos gone in a blink of the eye.

I have both of the browsers and I chose Opera over Firefox any day of the week. Opera has a much better popup blocker and on my system, it beats the hell out of firefox with ease. If you want the vast extensions that Firefox has, try Mozilla instead. It seems to be safer.

they are both good and I have both installed. I mostly use firefox because they have a better selection of extensions than the widgets of opera.

Personally, I prefer Opera. It's faster, has a much smaller memory footprint and comes with a lot of features that you have to install as components to get in Firefox, which again decreases FF's speed.

Opera still has relatively strict Javascript parsing, so some DHTML-based websites may not work in Opera. Opera's plug-in support isn't as good as Firefox's but I still haven't had many issues in the 3 years I've been using Opera.

It seems to me that as time progresses, Firefox is developing slower and slower. The improvements made in Firefox 2 are so minor, from the user's perspective that I worry that Firefox will lose its momentum. Big things are planned for Firefox 3, but most of those were planned for 2 and got pulled! I think the project is experiencing problems with so many developers and the increasing bloat that is occuring, which is ironic as originally Firefox (then named Firebird) was supposed to be a lean version of Mozilla.
