dhcp dns

Hi
i am using fedora core 4 and would like to have a dhcp server. What I want is so when a new computer is connected to the network the computer name will appear on a list and will allow me to allow it onto the network by giving it an ip, rather than automatically allocating to every computer. I know a program exists for this but it is an internal program or a company I'm not part of.

I also want to setup dns so on my lan when people type in www.myname.com it will goto the apache hosted web on my local server and also supply names for some other servers.

Please Help

What you are describing is the exact opposite of a DHCP server. The whole point of Dynamic Host Configuarion Protocol servers is that they do all that without user intervention.

What you actually want to do is allow only known clients and log attempts from unknowns so they can be manually configured. How is the network configured (hardware and topology). Are there likely to be existing routers or switches that are currently acting as DHCP servers?

well i still want the dhcp because it is designed to be less work for the computer users connecting in. So when I allow it I want them to be given automatically all the ip details etc, rather than just telling them what to enter as an ip...

so i really want a controllable dhcp server
