CTH Chat?
Why not have a chatroom? Ya...like add a "Chat" thing in that row where "My Control Panel, FAQ, etc." are placed. I think that'd be fun and interestin'...

Here's the example, check this out - if you go to www.scienceforums.net and you'll see the thing that says "SFN Chatroom" in that row there |

its been suggested so many times I lost count. The problem with a chat room in this forum is everyone would be getting on it looking for immediate help instead of posting their question - answers would get confusing and someone will mess up their computer because they used the wrong answer. IMO, since there is a feature for im in every profile, just use those if you need to chat,

The main problem with a chat room is that someone needs to moderate it because some people tend to get out of line, and out of hand, in the anonymity of chat rooms.
To make sure it remains at least civil, at least one moderator needs to be in that chat room at all times. It's difficult, if not impossible, to find the volunteers needed to cover it 24/7. |

The main problem I see with live chat being used for help is how does that get archived for search (either on-site search or Web Search Engine).
The whole point of the forum (and this is why we are so hot on folks using PMs for support) is that every post forms a vast searchable archive of Qs and As.

Well why not have rooms then? "Help", "General Talk", "Help 1", "Help 2", etc....

There are hundred, if not thousands, of chat servers on the net. It would be quite easy for somebody who's interested in chatting with other CTH people to set one up and let everybody on CTH know about it.

You just know it's going to be abused. Whilst it may have good intentions starting out as general talk, it's going to end up with 2 people talking, and a thousand others posting their problems, drawing attention to their forum posts, abusing others, abusing CTH...
