recently, i was having difficulties opening certain videos from google and yahoo videos (class not registered message) so i checked out the class not registered error and found an old thread on a site that suggested i should delete the quartz.dll and download a new one. i did that unfortunately, and then all my media stopped playing in WMP. i have tried installing new versions of WMP and DirectX, and have overwritten the new quartz file i installed about 50 times, but nothing is working. what can i do short of formatting my computer to regain my ability to use media on my computer???

Hi atavist, try this:

Go to Start > Run and run the following command and hit Enter.

regsvr32 quartz.dll

You should see a short message stating the command was successful. Now reboot and let us know if this helped.

ann marie,

after trying the regsvr command, i recieved this error:

LoadLibrary("quartz.dll") failed.
GetLastError returns 0x0000001f.

any ideas? i have no clue what's going on with this.

Ok, do you still have the DirectX download? If not try downloading the latest version of DirectX to your Desktop.

When you have done this, boot into Safe Mode (see here (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/tutorial/article/how-to-boot-into-safe-mode) for more help if you need it). Find quartz.dll and rename it to quartz.old. Install DirectX now and reboot.

Dis this help?
