I'm running Windows 2K (recently upgraded from Win95), and ever since I upgraded, after powering down my computer, the computer starts again automatically right around the top of the hour. I checked the administrative tools -Event Log- System Log-and this message is the first one in the System Log after the compter turns on: Microsoft (R) Windows 2000 (R) 5.0 2195 Service Pack 3 Uniprocessor Free. Has anyone out there ever experienced this before, and what can I do to stop this from happening evry time I turn off my computer?
Thanks for your help,
Murf

HI! Welcome to CTH
START | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL | POWER
Check the settings, may be set to hibernate when you power down.

I tried that, but that's not it. When I look at the Application Log under administrative tools-Event Viewer-, it looks like something called WMDM PMSP Service starts up, and that's what causes my computer to start up.

Are you on a LAN ?
Windows Media Device Manager (WMDM) Pre-Message Security Protocol(PMSP).
This service supports the feature Secure Digital Music Initiative(SDMI) which is used when packaging copyrighted music.
You can safely disable this service.

I'm not on a LAN, but I do have a cable modem w/ a NIC . I tried disabling the "Wake on LAN" setting, but that didn't work either.

You disabled that in your BIOS, on the card, or in windows ? and what do you mean it didn't work ? it wouldn't disable ? or disabling didn't resolve the problem ?

I think it's fixed. A guy at work told me to go to my NIC properties and disable the "Wake on LAN" setting, but I also needed to go into BIOS and disable it as well.
Thanks for all your help!!!
