what makes a computer boot up slow?

I am running windows me.
Computer booted up quickly until comcast gave us McAfee.
Now it takes a long time to boot up. I keep trying to remove some of the McAfee, but it keeps coming back.

A:confused: Any suggestions

Have you tried to uninstall McAfee in Control Panel - Add or Remove Software? BitDefender is freeware, AVG once had freeware, don't know if they still do.

have been sort of afraid to do that.
Took lots of stuff out of start up and will see what happens

have you ran spyware check that can cause all kinds of problems.. you might want to read this (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86677) and post a log in cybersafety (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25).. they can see if there are any issues there and advise you.. if your log is clean come back here and someone will help you further....:D
