Hey Matt, sorry for the lack of response here.
From your console before you try to startX, lets see if we can do a manual config since the Live CD auto config has obviously failed to correctly identify your video card. Try XFDRAKE at the prompt.

At [root@localhost ~]# I type XFDRAKE and get:
-bash: -XFDRAKE command not found Note: I'm booting from the CD, and haven't installed it on the HD but using my Slackware9.0 CD I partitioned and formatted the HD as the swap. Also, I have suspicions about the HD being bad.

Try running 'X -configure' as root, see what that returns.

kage, you can flog me publicly now or later ...
![]() Matt, sorry buddy I just committed a cardinal Linux sin - Linux is CASE SENSITIVE. Mandriva One live does have the Mandrake X configuration utility but to get it to run, you need to call it with it's proper name in the proper case... XFdrake

When I tried X -configure it said:
Your xorg.conf file is /root/xorg.conf.new to test the server, run "X -configure /root/xorg.conf.new" So I entered the above and it said: Fatal server error: Unrecognized option: /root/xorg.conf.new I entered XFdrake and was about to ask what to do with the menu that came up when the screen went blank. I restarted and it said there was a problem with either the keyboard or the system unit. It does this some times. I have to let it sit with the power off over night.

I am unfamiliar with the Xfdrake utility. To use the configuration 'X -configure' setup, first backup your current config (although, it doesn't work :P) with the command (ran as root) 'cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak'. Then install the new config with the command (also ran as root) 'cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf'. Then try starting x, see what happens.

It seems the above from kage worked. I'll play around with it more and see if I can install it on the hard drive later.
Thanks
