What occurred prior to getting the error?

Did you add/remove hardware or software?

I suggest you perform a ScanDisk at once.
Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Scan disk...

Can you get the system up in 'safe mode' w/o getting the error?

Are you using internet explorer?

Are you using MSN?

Can you go to "start" and "run", ScanDisk?
If not, you have left it to late to perform the necessary action, and you may experience an illegal operation error on start-up.
There have been many theories about this error, some think it is the number of items running at start-up, or to many apps running the on the same DLLs. Ignore that, it is hardware related. That is why ScanDisk is essential to run the first time you get the fault, however your computer will be crippled by this error and you may have to re-install the W98 OS if you have ignored the error over time.

Note: I am running IE 6

Have you tried to run 'scanDisk'?

It may be the answer and if it isn't, you will have tried that solution.

"susrai", I suggest you download a registry application. It may be that your registry is corrupted, and that may be causing the errors to prevail.

You can try ScanDisk in safe mode to see if this works; if not try the other option.
