Hello,
Anyone know where I can get a W95 cd? I am missing some files, and this pc only came with a restore disk which wipes out everything.
Thanks, John :)

John, I haven't had a lot of experience with OEM quick restore disks, but they should contain the windows CABS somewhere.
Look at the quick restore disk from within Windows Explorer and see if they are there.
What files do you think you are missing?
You should be able to extract some from the cab files using later versions of WinZip.
If all else fails, there's always ebay where you can ususally pick up win95b CD quite cheap.

Hi Smurfy,
This Compaq Presario restore disk gives me no choices. It wipes out all things and restores pc to the way it was when I bought it. I'll try looking a little deeper. I'm missing ms games, wordpad, ms paint, charactor map, calculator. In system tools I'm missing resource meter and system monitor. I don't use these much but I would like to have worpad back.
Thanks, John

A suggestion:
There are freeware replacements available on the Internet that offer all the functionality of those programs and more.
Here is one to get you started:

Hi Lynnm,
Thanks to you I now have a replacement for Word Pad. My wife thanks you too. I have a good solitaire program so there is no problem with that. What exactly does character map do? And what about imaging?
Thanks sooooo much for your help, John :)

Have you gone in to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup and checked what you want there?

Hi Junky,
Yes I have looked in windows setup and all of those items are checked. Can I remove (uncheck) these items and add them back to make them work again? I fear I may screw things up. Am I right?

Hi,
"Can I remove (uncheck) these items and add them back to make them work again?"
I have many times with no ill effects. Try removing just one that you don't use or care about and then see if you can replace it. If Windows is working correctly, there will be no problems. You may need the Windows "recover" disk to do this.
