Don't know whether it's been suggested before about buying/selling/swapping computer parts/spares amongst members???

Group purchases etc.

Just a thought

I don't think it would work, purely because of the world-wide, unclustered spread of members we have. Forseeably, group purchases wouldn't work, and overseas shipping would be an expensive reason not to participate. Though, if it was put in to effect, it might be one way to draw a bigger cluster of geographically close members onto the site, where it could potentially grow to a point where group purchases would work.

Here's an example of an Australian group purchasing site:
http://bulkbuy.com.au

The biggest problem with those is organization - you need someone to organize the deal (contact distributer, get prices) and you need someone trustworthy to take care of everything - contact, arranging the interested buyers, making and accepting payments, arranging delivery...needless to say they're a lot of work.

It would be nice if there was a way to keep it limited to everyday users. I'm afraid it would attract retailers who would be clogging up the site selling their wares.

Yeah, that's another point. Unfortunately there's not really any way to ensure retailers/hawkers don't spam the board with their stuff.

This site can already distinguish between New Members, Members and Senior Members. We could do it that way.

I might be overlooking the situation here but I was thinking along the lines of offering spares for rebuilding or upgrades.

It could be done on a one to one basis via PM.

Group purchases could be done (as long as people are local to each other) as long as it was organised. Postage wouldn't be a major factor providing it was within a sensible boundary.

Customers don't dictate carriage costs.

Couriers do.

Already thought of that; but then you get spammers who will only post to get up their post count, and then start selling their stuff, resulting in more spam for the forums.

Unless you ensure stuff is traded for free, any method you use (private message vs thread) is going to attract spammers.

Just my 2 cents worth,
If this is possible I would buy here before any where else!
We live in a small town no pooter shops.

I trust the people here, enough so I turn to them for help when needed and send others here.

So to buy from here would be the icing on the cake for me.

We do own two auction sites, if CTH needs it to be else where we would be willing to offer CTH free every thing - zero fees - zero costs for CTH. My hubby and I are offering because we will help to support CTH in any way we can.

Hi da_moma, my apologies. The last few posts were just a little frivolity with an old friend.

I didnt mean to detract from your generous offer. I am not sure if CTH can accept it but I will repost it for comment below.

AnnMarie Hi,

This is my first chance to stop back by...sick chitlen, busy winter months.
Honesty no apology is needed. This is one of the many reasons why I love being here when I can get a break. Real people who care about each other.
I learn a lot here as well at my pace!

If there is some thing we can do to help out we would be willing to.
We would love to give back to this site as you have given to so many (myself included).
