OK here is the problem that I got I hope some one can help me becuase it baffles me. Ok a few months ago my computer started to freeze while i would play Need for Speed Hot prusuit 2. So I would try other games like Unreal tornament 2003 and still freezes. What exactly happens is that the game would run for a random amount of time ranging from less then a min which happens all the time with the game Giants and 10 - 15 min with NFS. Every game that has been using my Geforce 3 Ti 500 seems to freeze in odd manner. A constant high pitch noise comes out of the speakers and then eather right when the sound starts or a few seconds later the computer would feeze up i would be forced to restart. I have noticed that when the squeel from the speakers starts if i hit any key then it freezes automaticly I have notcied this becuse i would be using a gamepad at the time. And now the really odd thing happens, i have been having this freezing problem for about a month and I uninstalled some random things (nothing vital or system related) that i didnt use and it started to work again. I would play any game and it wouldnt freeze in the least bit. So my comp was fine for another month or so. Then randomly I am talking randomly haveing not installed anything diffrent from before when it was working and it starts to freeze again. So I format my computer to fix this problem. This does nothing. Ihave been running alot things in my computer on a 300 watt power supply so I suspected that it was lack of power. I have been running 1 cdr. 1 dvd drive, 1 cdrom drive. and 3 hds with a 100 ATA pc controller card with one network card and a sb live card and geforce 3 ti 500 with a usb mouse and a usb network adapter. I thought that this was too much for my computer obviously but i removed all but one of my hds and cd rom drives and the network adapter and still froze. So I ruled out lack of power but mabey i am wrong. Ever since i formated i have had NO trouble while in win 2k desktop but when I start up any game requireing the 3d card it eventually freezes. If there is anything i can do to dignoise this problem please let me know. I hope someone can help me out. Thx

Hi! Welcome to CTH
I think you have already identified the problem: Geforce 3 Ti 500
Do you have:
1. Current Video Card Drivers
HERE (http://www.guru3d.com/files/)
Is the fan running on the Video Card?
2. Current version of DirectX (8.1)

I have all of the updated driver and also the most recent direct x. But the fan is not running. Which i just noticed. So the fan not running would be causeing all the problems I have?

YES SIR RE BOB, that card runs HOT, thats what the fan is for. Need to get that fan replaced or working and your problem should go away. I would IMMEDIATELY fix it, so you don't burn the card up.

Allright well I the fan is replaced and I have sent it to the company for repair. And now it works again for a little while but again it freezes again. Do you think mabey some damage to the card from the overheating is creating these problem? What do you think?

I would say that is very possible. Your best bet is just to invest into a graphics card like the Ti4600. I'm running a Ti4200 because I built my computer on a tight budget and the card was very affordable and worth the money.
I'd suggest heading over to www.newegg.com or www.bzboyz.com. Avoid purchasing from Buymstar.com because they have horrible customer service. That Ti500 of yours really isn't equipt to handle the games of today.
I have an Asus Ti4200 128mb graphic card with 8xAGP.
One thing I'd suggest is if you're going to upgrade your graphics card, find out what AGP x your motherboard supports. Some only support 4x.
I'm willing to bet it's about the same price to purchase a new graphics card as it is to send one back once you've factored in shipping and handling fees, as well as the repair itself.
Hope things work you for you. Good luck.

Man......can i borrow half your computer?!? all the post i see with you make me wish my comp would mass crash and be destroyed forvever and i could buy a better comp.
And as for the video card problem. Get radion 9000 pro. they are the best cards for todays gameing (i might have the numbers wrong). its a 128 Mb card. someother stuff for it too but i forget.:o

Allrighty well i took out my broken geforce 3 ti 500 and put it in my buddys comp to see if the same problem exists with it. And so i also traded cards to see if it was my agp port. His card was a geforce 4 4600 and it runs fine on my computer no freezeing problems at all. Also on my buddys computer it doesnt freeze eather. So no i am even more confused then before. Can any body help me out with some ideas? thx

Well after reading some other postings and after checking my IRQ settings. I found that i have 11 things that are set to use IRQ 11 including my Geforce 3. I would like to change the setting but I dont know how to change them. Any Ideas?
