i want to build a website, however i have no skills, i know a little html but that's all. I'v heard of software which makes it possible for someone with no programming skills to piece together a website, by dragging, sizing, and inserting, all with the click of a mouse.

the most important thing is that i can insert html code for some banners ect.

does anyone know of a good program for builing a website?

thanks

theres several out there and it depends upon how much you want to spend. Both Microsoft Frontpage and Macromedias Dreamweavers or good and tops in the field. I have used both of them and they have wysiwyg. However, you will still have to learn html to do minor editing.

As far as the banners, most of the bigger hosting services offer scripts in their hosting packages where you can use banners in your site.

Theres some free ones out there also but those that I have tried left alot to be desired when it comes to wysiwyg.

Generally Dreamweaver and GoLive are the two best options. There are many cheaper packages as well such as Homesite or TacoHTML.

Whatever you do, do not use Microsoft FrontPage.

There's a lot of shareware stuff out there... I have not found anything that is good as well as free. People like Dreamweaver, but it's not cheap... $250 USD. There are older versions on Ebay that are less expensive. I concur with Buzz on FrontPage. Actually, I think FrontPage is going to be discontinued shortly.

I keep coming back and editing... too tired tonight. If you are just wanting to do a blog, post pictures, that kind of thing, there are blogging sites that have the software built into the site. Not sure you want to go with myspace.com, but there are others...

I don't know anything about the web host recommended above but most web hosting packages include some kind of page building software. If you're looking for a host that might be a consideration. I think you're much better off building your pages with independent software. I've recommended Nvu in the past for those who want to try something out without making the investment in professional grade software.

well if u have Microsoft Word, which almost everyone does, then u also probably have Microsoft Publisher, which is what i use to build my websites since i dont know any html either. After about a day of playing around with it, ull be set in no time.

dreamweaver is not just for advanced users, its for serious webdesigners whether novice or advance.

Advanced users just stick to a text editor. Hand coding is the optimum way to build web sites. Dreamweaver is more of a beginner to intermediate tool.
