Can only start in safe mode, I receive the following error when starting in Normal: While intializing device IOS error. An I/O Subsystem failed to load. Either a file in the .\iosysbus subdirector is corrupt or the system is low on memory. I restored the registry and tried all the Win boot options with no success. I tried to reinstall Windows95 and received the following error, which I can not find info on, SU99407, Add Reg=processing error (0X197). I'm willing to reformat my hard drive but don't know how to go about that. Think you can help? Thanks for your time. Lori Ahler

Hi Lori...welcome to the board. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif
Try this before resorting to a format:
Let the system boot in Safe Mode. Click on Start > Run, type sysedit in the box and OK it. Click on the system.ini window. Scroll down to the [VCACHE heading. Add the following line under the heading:
MAXFILECACHE=6144.
Save and exit (this is just like editing a text file). Reboot.
Let us know if this works.

Hi Hked where you been hiding?
lori if that didn't do it. Insert your boot disk and boot to it. If you need one with CD support I can e-mail you one. Put your win95 cd in and at the prompt type in the letter of your cd drive d: or whatever it is... then type in setup.exe. See if this will re-install windows for you.

Hi Idnew...under a rock as usual. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif
So many sites...so little time *LOL*
If a reinstall of Windows is needed, it's wise to uninstall whatever version of IE is installed first.
Hopefully, what I posted will work. It's a documented MS error.
*Edit - I don't think unstall is a real word. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/wink.gif

Well, you guys are pretty darn helpful!
I can boot up in normal mode but I'm missing some drivers and it looks like I may have a virus - so I'm working on that - but believe me, if I need more information, this is the first place I'm coming.
Thanks for all your help.
Lori

LOL HKED. Absolutley right. I forgot about un-installing IE. Is that a word. Be sure you do lori, we will try to help all we can. I keep my virus updated and loaded on startup. Knock on wood, have never had a virus and I also use a firewall.
