Will it be an automatic update? How do I know if Ive got it? If I have got it, do I have to get rid of it or something or will they release a patch for the patch

Yep that was todays (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918899). I think most people have auto turned off.. then at least you can choose what you download.

Oh bum - I had it set to auto because I had windows defender for a while and it would say I was at risk if I didnt have auto updates turned on. I did it to stop the nags or amber light or whatever it was. Prior to that, I had it set to download but dont install. Id better change it back I guess. Mind you, Id have allowed that update anyway as it was IE and I hadnt read the article yet.

A bit more info : http://research.eeye.com/html/alerts/AL20060822.html

If you have XP with SP2, you are not at risk .... for W2k and SP1 users ... see workaround.
