It's not that they want to, it's that they HAVE to. Higher-end 32 bit processors are just barely capable of flawless BD-ROM/HD-DVD HD content playback at full bitrate. Introduce HDCP into the equation (a requirement the movie studios placed on Microsoft - they were against it), and 32 bit processors simply won't cut it.
