whenever my pc boots it displays bios configuration and the time goes back to 2000 and I have to set it for each boot

The CMOS battery on the motherboard is probably dead.
It's a flat watch battery.

what am i going to do then? do I have to buy and change it?

Yes,carefully remove the old 1,it will unclip if removed properly.
Don't force it.
There is a number on the battery.
You can get a replacement at radioshack or a similar store.
Make sure it goes back in facing the same direction.
