My son's system is running Win95. While trying to load new software I receive an error message, "Not a win32 application". None of the new software will load, heck nothing will load. Possibly needing a new CD-Rom device??? Thanks for any and all help

install. New games for Christmas. I was playing around with it last night, I'm pretty sure I need a new device.

This may or may not be the problem.

From Microsoft:

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are using a Matsus*ita CD-ROM drive. Some Matsus*ita
CD-ROM drives are not totally compatible with Windows 95 or Windows 98.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact the manufacturer of your computer to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue. Note that this may require replacing your CD-ROM drive with a more up to date CD-ROM drive.

http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Must have a dirty word in it. After thought. Does the software say it is for win95 or win95/98? If it just says win98 it won't install. I'm still looking.

I appreciate all this help. The cd-rom isn't a Matsus*ita, it's some off brand called Lite-On. I did check their web site, they say Win95 shouldn't need the drivers only DOS. The games are for 95 and up.

Can't seem to find anything else. I would try to update the drivers anyway. I'd try everything I could think of before buying a new one. Even to re-installing windows. I'll look some more. You may also not have enough memory. Have you got the option to just install the basics where you have to put the CD in to actually play it?

I had a similar problem trying to reinstall software from files I had recovered from a wiped disk using Lost & Found. Gave up on them and downloaded new copies and they worked OK. So, could be corrupted files or you CD-ROM is having trouble reading them.
Another suggestion is to copy the games folder(or files) to your hard drive and try running setup/install from there, then delete the files, if disk space is a problem.
